Mayor Jorge Elorza endorses David Morales for Mayor of Providence
Providence, RI – Former Mayor Jorge Elorza has endorsed Rep. David Morales to be the next Mayor of Providence. Citing the affordability crisis, Mayor Elorza praised Morales as the candidate who is prepared
“The truth is that families like the one I grew up in are being priced out of Providence every day,” said Mayor Elorza. “This election is a referendum on who gets to enjoy being a part of our great city. Will Providence be a city only for the wealthy and well-connected elite or will there be room for working class families like those who live in my neighborhood? It is clear that David Morales is the leader who will fight to make sure there is room for all of us. I know David is ready for the responsibility of leading our city, and I am proud to endorse him to be the next Mayor of Providence.”
“I am honored to have Mayor Elorza’s endorsement,” said Rep. Morales. “When I was first elected to the House of Representatives, Mayor Elorza and I talked about the importance of governing, building coalitions with those you may not always align with, and remembering that public service is about improving the lives of our neighbors. In the years that followed, I was proud to partner with him to deliver real results for our Providence families. Together, we launched a pilot program to deliver guaranteed income for working families, secured more resources for our community libraries, and banned source-of-income discrimination for Section 8 housing. Mayor Elorza recognizes the affordability crisis we are in today. He understands that this election is about whether or not working families can continue calling our city home, and I am proud to stand alongside him as we work together to deliver a Providence for all.”
