Providence City Councilors Roias and Sanchez endorse David Morales for Mayor
PROVIDENCE, RI — City Councilors Justin Roias and Miguel Sanchez have announced their endorsement of Rep. David Morales for Mayor of Providence. Two co-sponsors of the rent stabilization ordinance that was introduced this week, Roias and Sanchez cite Morales’s focus on working families, his support for tenants and immigrants, and his rejection of corporate money and influence as reasons for their endorsement.
“I’m incredibly proud to have the support of my friends and colleagues, Justin Roias and Miguel Sanchez. Both councilors are leaders who show up, organize, and deliver for working families in Providence. They’ve taken real action to strengthen our sanctuary city laws, protect our unhoused neighbors from being criminalized, and are now leading the fight for rent stabilization so Providence families can stay in their homes. Our city is stronger because of their leadership, and I’m ready to govern alongside them as Mayor. Together, we are going to build a Providence for All.” - Rep. David Morales
“Our city needs a new direction, and we need it now. For years, we’ve been told Providence should be a ‘world-class city,’ but that slogan has become code for a city that benefits developers and outsiders — not for the people who have lived here, worked here, and raised families here for generations.
Under that approach, longtime residents are being pushed out while City Hall looks the other way. David Morales rejects those politics entirely. He is not bought and he is not beholden to corporate interests. That means he will fight for working people, tenants, and neighborhoods — not the powerful few. That’s why I’m proud to endorse David Morales for mayor.” - Providence City Councilor Justin Roias
“I’ve watched David consistently show up for our Providence neighbors, in moments of crisis and in moments of courage. From supporting emergency shelter efforts for our unhoused neighbors to confronting suspected ICE agents threatening our immigrant community, he leads with action. I’m proud to support him for Mayor of Providence.
As my City Council colleagues and I prepare to confront Providence’s housing emergency by passing rent stabilization, we need a trusted partner in the Mayor’s Office. During my time in office, David has been an outstanding partner, and I know he will continue delivering real results for Providence’s working families at City Hall.” - Providence City Councilor Miguel Sanchez
