Morales campaign says he’s leading incumbent Smiley in Providence’s mayoral race
The internal poll conducted by Data for Progress has Morales with an 11 percentage point lead over Smiley, with a 6 percentage point margin of error
PROVIDENCE — State Representative David Morales’s campaign is touting an internal poll putting him ahead of incumbent Mayor Brett Smiley, with less than six months until the Democratic primary.
The text and web poll of 306 likely Democratic primary voters, which was conducted by progressive think tank Data for Progress between March 4 and 15, puts Morales ahead by 11 percentage points at 45 percent to Smiley’s 34 percent, according to a copy obtained by the Globe. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 6 percentage points.
