Sen. Bell and Rep. Sanchez endorse Rep. Morales for Mayor of Providence
PROVIDENCE, RI – Rhode Island Senator Sam Bell and Rep. Enrique Sanchez have announced their endorsements of Rep. David Morales to be the next Mayor of Providence. Senator Bell and Rep. Sanchez cited David’s long record of fighting for housing affordability, making government more accessible to working people, and delivering results for Providence as the reasons for their endorsements.
“As a colleague, a neighbor, and a friend, I have seen David’s approach to leadership up close for six years,” said Senator Bell. “David and I have hosted monthly community meetings throughout the parts of Elmhurst and Mount Pleasant that we both represent, and I have watched him make time and space to ensure that every single one of his constituents is heard and their concerns are addressed, whether they support him or not. I know he will bring that same care and compassion for every one of our neighbors in Providence to City Hall.
David is unafraid to challenge power and the status quo. At a moment when our neighbors are facing a housing affordability crisis, a public school system in need, and federal cuts that are creating budget shortfalls, David is the leader that Providence deserves. He will hold bad landlords and corporate developers accountable and fight to tax the polluters harming our neighbors. Most importantly, he will organize the Providence delegation at the state house to deliver meaningful new revenue streams to fund our city budget. I am proud to endorse David Morales to be the next Mayor of Providence.”
“David has always put working people first, and that’s the kind of Mayor we need in Providence right now,” said Representative Sanchez. “At a time when families are being priced out because of rising rents, David understands that we need rent stabilization now. He has been a thoughtful partner on the issue of housing affordability for years. I am particularly proud of the work we’ve done together to ban rental application fees and raise the minimum wage to afford working people in our community a more dignified life. David has my full support and endorsement to be the next Mayor of Providence.”
“I am honored to have the support of Senator Bell and Representative Sanchez,” said Rep. Morales. “Sam and Enrique have been champions of working people in the state legislature for years. Their focus on delivering results and making government more accessible for our neighbors is the type of leadership I plan to bring to City Hall. I am grateful for their endorsements and know that they will be key advocates at the state house as we work together to deliver a Providence for all.”
